Catch the New Wave of Acai Juice!

Thank God for the surfer's in Brazil who made acai a cultural lifestyle. Back in 2005, I first discovered Acai in a Brazilian reastaurant- Muqueca in Somerville, Massachusetts.

I noticed acai on the menu and was curious because the restaurant was promoting acai as something that gives you power. I thought a little extra energy could never hurt so I asked the waitress about acai. She was from Brazil and was enthusiastic about giving me the rundown on acai and some of it’s history. As she said, acai originated in Brazil in the north in a city called Belem which is in the Amazon rainforest. The story she told went something like this… the Gracie family, legendary Jujitsu world champion ultimate fighters were notorious for their eating acai and drinking acai juice as part of their regimen. The word spread out of the north into mainstream Brazil when surfer’s gravitated toward acai. Acai became popular in Brazil first within the surfer community… as surfer’s hung out at acai juice bars drinking acai smoothies and eating acai bowls to give them energy to surf all day.

This inspired me to order a large acai bowl as I was intrigued. Acai bowls are served with frozen acai pulp topped with sliced bananas and granola. The waitress advised against this because she said an acai bowl is a meal in itself. She suggested an acai smoothie made with acai frozen pulp and mixed with apple juice. After my first sip, I was hooked. The taste was absolutely delicious and it does fill you up like a mini-meal and I am sure if I had ordered the acai bowl, we would have never finished our chicken with rice, beans and fried plantains.

My introduction to acai from the little brazilian restaurant in Somerville, MA led me on an acai journey that has changed my life. Since that first taste of acai, I have been studying and researching acai. I have acai everyday. First thing in the morning, for breakfast it's a frozen pint of Flavor Brazil's puree or Sambazon's frozen acai sorbet. I am on a constant look out for stores that carry acai juice and acai products. To me, acai is a passion and a lifestyle and most definitely a gift from the universe. I acquired AcaiJuice.com because acai became a lifestyle for me that I wanted to share with the world. If I were ever stranded on a deserted island and could only have one food to eat it would be frozen acai pulp hands down!
